How often should you get a professional facial treatment?
One of the most common questions I hear at my studio in Basel: "How often do I actually need to come in?" The answer is simpler than many people think — but it follows a very specific rhythm of your skin.
The golden rule: every 4 to 6 weeks
For healthy, radiant skin I recommend a professional facial treatment every 4 to 6 weeks. This rhythm isn't random — it matches your skin's natural cell renewal cycle exactly. In younger people the top layer of skin renews itself every 28 days; in mature skin this cycle can slow down to 40 or even 50 days.
A professional treatment at the right moment supports this natural renewal: dead cells are gently removed, circulation is stimulated, and active ingredients can penetrate deep into the skin.
When should the rhythm be tighter?
For certain skin conditions a more intensive rhythm can make sense:
- Acne and strong blemishes: Every 2–3 weeks at the start until the skin stabilises — then back to 4–6 weeks.
- Microneedling course: 6–8 treatments every 3–4 weeks for visible results on wrinkles, scars or pigmentation.
- Pro Power Peel: A series of 4–6 fruit acid peels two weeks apart.
- Before a wedding: Start 6 months ahead, with tighter intervals in the final 4 weeks.
What if you wait longer?
You can come less often of course — but the results aren't the same. Those who only come 2–3 times a year experience a kind of "reset" each time. The skin benefits short-term, but the lasting improvement doesn't come. Think of skincare like sport: consistency beats intensity.
"I always tell my clients: a facial treatment isn't a reward, it's an investment in the long-term health of your skin."
The right care at home
Even the best professional treatment is limited if your home routine isn't right. Around 80% of your skin quality depends on your daily routine at home. In my studio I show every client individually which Dermalogica products suit their skin type — it's part of every first consultation.
And men?
Men's skin is about 25% thicker than women's skin and produces more sebum. The same 4–6-week rhythm basically applies to men too. Our treatments for men at Kosmetikstudio Basel are specifically tailored to male skin — from a business treatment in your lunch break to an in-depth skin analysis.
My final tip
Don't only book when your skin is "in crisis" — plan your appointments regularly. The easiest way: book the next appointment while you're still in the studio. It saves the hassle — and your skin will thank you with a lastingly beautiful complexion.
